I love making holiday treats! My son wanted me to find a recipe to make to take to his Kindergarten class for this Valentine's day. So why not dress up an old favorite? Here is a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies with a twist from Tablespoon!
1/2 cup butter, slightly softened
1 pouch (17.5 ounce) Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix (or any brand you can find)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 eggs whites
red food coloring
1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate)
1/2 cup Valentine themed M&M's (plus extras to decorate the top of the cookies)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream together butter and cookie mix. Add powdered sugar and flour then mix until crumbly.
Add egg whites and mix until everything sticks together. What a difference a few egg whites makes!
Add as much food coloring as you want to make the perfect shade of pink. Mix well then add chocolate chips and M&M's and mix again. (I used white chocolate chips. Yummy!)
Roll into 1 1/4 inch balls and bake on cookie sheet for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, smoosh some extra M&M's into the tops of the soft cookies and bake for another 2 minutes. Total baking time: 10 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!
