Paparazzi, vodka cocktails, and sex. Welcome to LAlaland.

Winifred Chapman isn’t thrilled with the idea of her ten year reunion; especially not the idea of returning to LAlaland. Even in the midst of her thrilling career, she’s managed to avoid LA as often as possible, which is saying a lot for a world-renowned fashion designer. She has a life which women everywhere would envy, and has everything she needs . . . or so she thinks. Anthony Ricci was the most popular guy at Westlake High, and the one Winifred thought would never look twice at her. A former professional athlete, he now runs a successful Italian restaurant in New York City. When they run into each other at the reunion and give in to a widely passionate night, Anthony decides he may want more than Winifred is willing to give. Hating being known by the men she’s dated or slept with, Winifred has learned to take what she needs from them without investing emotionally. When she discovers Anthony’s old desire for her and disappears after their night together, he refuses to give her up. Will he be able to show her that love doesn’t have to be a battle, or will LAlaland prove to be enough to destroy her carefully constructed walls?

Title: A Debt Repaid (Retaliations #1)
Author: N. Isabelle Blanco
Genre: Erotica/ Contemporary Romance
Expected Release Date: 2.14.14

Lex Talionis (n.)- The law of retaliation, whereby a punishment resembles the offense committed in kind and degree.

Two wrongs. One right. He met her under the worst circumstances. She was still married. To the man who'd stolen from his company. But none of that would matter, because Chase would have her. At any cost.

To Chase Blaine, it really was that simple. Douglas Colton had stolen millions from Chase’s company. He had to pay. Chase had every intention of cornering the bastard and making sure he ended up in jail.

Then he came face-to-face with Douglas’s wife, Aria. One look at her changed all his plans, warping them into a much darker and perverse plot to get his revenge.

He would offer Douglas his freedom...in exchange for a single date with his wife.

To a man like Chase, a man that hadn’t truly felt emotions in a long time, Aria’s presence soon became more addicting than a drug. A problem considering that she might never forgive him for blackmailing her, despite the fact that at times she seems just as unwillingly fascinated by him as he is by her.

N. Isabelle Blanco was born in Queens, NY (USA). At the age of three, due to an odd fascination with studying her mother’s handwriting, she began to read and write. By the time she’d reached kindergarten, she had an extensive vocabulary and her obsession with words began to bleed into every aspect of her life.

An avid reader in her teens, her fascination with Japanese anime eventually led her to the universe of fan fiction, which became her on-again, off-again hobby for the next ten years. During that time she amassed a following of fans that, by her own admission, she would never be able to live without. It was those fans who encouraged her to step beyond the fan fiction realm and try her talent in the publishing world.

N. Isabelle Blanco now has three novellas and two full-length novels under her belt, and spends her days working as an author, web programmer, marketer, and graphic designer. That is when she isn’t handling her “spawn”, as she calls her son, and brainstorming with him about his future career as a comic book illustrator.

Taken by handsome Jack Langley to a place known as Freak House, she finds herself under the same roof as a mad scientist, his niece, a mute servant and Jack, a fire starter with a mysterious past. They assure Hannah she is not a prisoner and that they want to help her. The problem is, they think she's the earl's daughter. What will they do when they discover they took the wrong girl?

Playing With Fire (Freak House #2)Hannah Smith thinks she's safe now that Reuben Tate is set to face trial. But when an unusual creature is let loose on the Freak House estate, everybody is in danger, including Jack. To hunt it down, the household must take risks, but the greatest risk is to Hannah's heart. She's in danger of falling deeply in love with Jack, a man whose very touch can kill her.

That is it for this week. I wonder what I'll be in the mood for next week.

Title: The Hunter
Author: Joann H. Buchanan
Release Date: January 31st, 2014
Cover Design: Lindsay Anne Kendal

Destiny chose her, vengeance drove her. Seventeen year old Carly was born to be a hunter, a destiny she rejected until one fateful night when the only person she had in the world was taken, her mom. Now Carly is on a mission to hunt down the entity that destroyed her world.

My name is Carly. I belong to The Order of the Hunters—a group of chosen who are given the gift to track and kill those beings that go bump in the night. Oh yes, they are real, the monsters that creep in the darkness. They hide in the gardens of our own minds by making us believe they are nothing more than myths and legends. I’ve traveled this road for two years now. It’s not the same highway, but at times, when the sun is high in the sky and the road sweats from the heat, it feels like it. I wish I could say what brought me to this point was a sense of honor and nobility. In reality it was much simpler, it was revenge. Mom was taken by Shai, the weigher of souls.

Never Miss a Chance (Kellington, #2)I read the first book in the Kellington series, Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid, and loved it. Can't wait to dig into book two.

A duke’s daughter isn’t supposed to court scandal in Regency England. She isn’t supposed to involve herself in controversial causes. And she most especially isn’t supposed to expect love in a ton marriage. But Lady Elizabeth isn’t just any duke’s daughter. She’s a Kellington. And her expectations are somewhat higher than most people’s.

Marcus Redmond, the Marquess of Riverton, has been in love with his best friend’s sister for years. When Lizzie’s reputation is damaged, he offers her marriage, hoping she will come to care for him. But can the upright, staid Riverton make a love match with the impulsive, passionate Lizzie – especially when there are those who are determined to come between them?

Playing at Love: A Perfect Kisses NovelShow choir teacher Tess Johansson loves three things: music, her job, and sharing that passion with her students. But when a school budget crisis forces funding to be pulled from either the sports or music programs, she finds herself going head to head with Jack, the gorgeous new football coach who broke her heart fifteen years ago.

Jack Marshall wants two things: to be closer to his young daughter and to make his mark as a football coach. Taking the new job, with the promise that he’d have time to build a solid team, gave him both. But now he must win the season with a group of boys who aren't anywhere near ready or he’ll lose everything he’s worked so hard for. Being pitted against Tess, the summer love he never forgot, is like being fourth and long with only seconds on the clock.

On opposing sides of a fierce battle and with everything at stake, Tess and Jack find themselves torn between doing what it takes to win and doing what it takes to be together.

My Pace or Yours? What happens when an over-the-top, flat-out, chronically rushed career woman hires the world’s slowest carpenter to complete her late father’s half-built B&B before she loses it to the mob?

Type-A workaholic Beth Turner sure has her hands full: An eighty-hours-a-week real estate career ... "The Yesteryear," an unfinished inn left to her by her dad ... a loan-shark waiting to snatch away the extremely valuable property if Beth misses the almost impossible completion deadline ... and now: Sean Campbell.

Brilliant. Charming. A carpenter of legendary renown, Sean Campbell has no trouble convincing Beth that he's the man for the job ... except for the irritating fact that he is quite possibly the slowest-moving human on the face of the earth. Now add in some sultry summer heat, lust, and romance to mess things up and slow things down. Top it all off with a string of sabotage, courtesy of the murderous loan-shark, for which Beth blames Sean, and there goes the romance. And, barring miracles, there goes The Yesteryear.

But Sean is full of miraculous surprises, including his desperate transformation into a warp-speed building machine. But can even miracles overcome the loan-shark's final piece of sabotage ... one designed to put Beth out of his misery permanently?

Now and Then (Now, #1)Now Emmaline Carson is a sharp, settled graphic designer who loves painting, cooking and girls’ night out with her older sister Layla. But then – in the years before she went to art school in Paris – she was a shy, awkward teenager with frizzy hair, a flat chest and a massive crush on the boy across the street, Cole Marlowe. Too bad her incredibly hot neighbor only had eyes for Layla.
Cole is now a confident, laid-back attorney who’s even hotter than he used to be. He’s planning to stay single while working his way up the corporate ladder – until he’s knocked off course by a chance run-in with Emma.

Everything is different between Cole and Emma now. He finally sees her in a way she only dreamed of, and their hot chemistry is fueled by a growing friendship. But Emma’s deception of her sister – who wants Cole for herself – and the secret Cole’s been keeping for more than a decade threaten to tear apart what’s only just begun. Because sometimes the only thing standing in the way of now is then.

Such a great collection this week. I've also been reading a lot as well. I finished To Catch a Falling Star, Playing at Love, Wife for Hire, and Not the Marrying Kind. I've already passed the number of books I read in January last year and I'm hoping to at least double it.

It’s been five years, but Melody still mourns the death of Tim, her soul mate and husband who never had a chance to hold their daughter. Mel and her daughter have the love and support of Mel’s brother Will and sister-in-law Portia, the famous Oscar-winning actress-turned-mother. Mel works three jobs and mothers Ella, but she spends her mornings facing the demons of her grief. Her faith and her father, the pastor, helps Mel grapple with her grief.

Portia opens her home to her childhood friend Tarry Francis, a successful, womanizing rock star. He’s trying to beat his addictions. Again. He’s going through the motions, but needs his drugs and rowdy lifestyle to keep his childhood pain in check. Tarry’s privileged upbringing contrasted with his cruel parents, who starved him of affection. Who can fix that?

Mel is forced to counsel Tarry, but he’s so damaged and unwilling to try that she’s not sure anyone can help fix him. She gives him a special coin. Could this open their hearts to each other and fuel their love? Is this a step forward that will free them to catch the falling stars? Or will Mel remain faithful to her first love?

Rich in meaning, To Catch a Falling Star is about two lovers whose hearts struggle to open to find the magic of the journey of love. It’s a joyful and passionate story about overcoming challenges to lead us to love and the fulfillment of our dreams.

To Catch a Falling Star is the stunning follow-up novel to L. Duarte’s debut Chasing Stars about Portia and Will’s romance. A spiritual and playful read, L. Duarte has provided readers the chance to believe in healing a broken heart.

The pains of addiction and grief can be very similar. The soul gripping terror as one fights with addiction can be just as devastating as the loss of the love of a lifetime. L. Duarte tackles these two intense subjects with Tarry and Melody in the follow up novel to Catching Stars.

I was drawn to this book initially because of Melody, or Mel as she is referred to for most of the novel. Her grief is overwhelming even five years after the death of her husband, Tim, while he was serving in Afghanistan. I know, being drawn to a story about the loss of a loved one might sound weird. I have personally dealt with and seen so many people go through the stages of grief, I was curious how Duarte would write about it. Mel's journey is not taken in any sort of traditional sense. When a rock star fresh out of rehab, Tarry, walks back into her life, her grief takes on new life with the guilt of wanting someone new.

Tarry's sojourn into the abyss of addiction had been years in the making. With parents that paid more attention to the bottom of their shoes, Tarry was left with a gaping hole in his life that he eventually filled with deadly vices. When Mel's brother, Will, and her sister-in-law, Portia, take charge of Tarry's continuing recovery after he leaves rehab, he is thrown into Mel's life and rocked her in a way his music never could.

The story is told from both Mel and Tarry's point of view. I really loved that I was able to see into both of their heads as they dealt with their staggering attraction while trying to make it through each day sane. The story Duarte splices together is one of fate conspiring to bring together like souls. From the outside, Tarry and Mel look to be the opposite of what the other needs, yet, the two eventually become the balm to the other's wounds. With a cast of supporting characters to help them each on their own paths, Tarry and Mel attempt to follow a path together.

I applaud Duarte for the inventiveness and originality of the plot, the strength of the character development, and bringing forth the idea that fate can lead you to exactly where you need to be.

To Catch a Falling Star is the second book in the Crossing Stars series, but can be read as a stand alone.

Thank you to L. Duarte and Written Elegance Blog Tours for inviting me to be part of the To Catch a Falling Star tour and gifting me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

L. Duarte has found that there is only one thing better than reading, and that is writing. She is always torn between the two. She is also frequently torn between chocolate and coffee. However, she emphatically does not like the month of February, lies, and flies. For her, bravery is defined by the courage to do what we fear the most. This conviction is reflected in her debut work of romantic fiction, Chasing Stars. Duarte lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children. Drop her a few lines. She would love to hear from you.
