Feeding My Kindle with a little Jane Austen (sort of)
This week, I finished "Voyager" and have taken a few days off of reading to give my mind a break. Reading three 800+ page books in a row can be kind of overwhelming. I have some other books I can't wait to read. The Austen lover in me found two books to give me that little jolt while I take a rest from the story of Jamie and Claire.
Austenland (Austenland #1)
Jane is a young New York woman who can never seem to find the right man-perhaps because of her secret obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of "Pride and Predjudice." When a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-obsessed women, however, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined. Is this total immersion in a fake Austenland enough to make Jane kick the Austen obsession for good, or could all her dreams actually culminate in a Mr. Darcy of her own? • Goodreads
Drums of Autumn (Outlander #4)
The continuing saga of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser, Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, and Voyager. It began at an ancient Scottish stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past - or the grave. Dr Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once but twice. Claire left someone behind in the twentieth century. Their daughter Brianna. Now Brianna has made a disturbing discovery that sends her to the circle of stones and a terrifying leap into the unknown. In search of her mother and the father she has never met, she is risking her own future to try to change history... and to save their lives. • Goodreads

Colt had never forgotten the hot, sensual night he’d shared with Valentina, or how she’d left him without so much as a note or her contact information. He’d spent months searching for the woman who’d given him a night he couldn’t forget and thought he’d never see again. Now that she’s in Dallas, he’s determined to make her his. • Goodreads
Lost and Found (Emi Lost & Found #1)
Independent and sensitive, idealistic and hopeful, Emi Hennigan lives her life with optimism and an open mind. Between sharing a tiny Manhattan apartment with her fun-loving roommate and spending most of her free time with her heart-breaker friend, Emi’s seen enough failed relationships to know what to avoid in her quest to find her true love. Not only that, but a single moment from her past lingers in her mind, setting high expectations for every man she dates.
Emi’s best friend, artist and hopeless romantic Nate Wilson, has been her closest companion all of their adult lives. After swearing off love with Emi in a silly high school pact, Nate has been seeing other women in hopes of finding one that evokes stronger feelings than the ones he’s been harboring for Emi since he was a teen. Over the span of a year, boundaries are crossed, feelings are confessed, and their unique friendship begins to blossom into something more.
Through Nate’s eyes, an atypical romance unfolds, disrupting the comfortable safe haven their friendship has provided. With a promising future ahead of them both, fate intervenes to bring two soul mates together. •Goodreads
His Kidnapper's Shoes
Daniel Bateman is one angry man. He’s just discovered a devastating truth; the woman who calls herself his mother is really his kidnapper. Snatched from his birth family when he was four years old, Daniel’s always been tormented with vague memories from his former life. When he is confronted with a second shattering revelation, his life falls apart; booze and casual sex help numb the pain.
Daniel knows one thing for sure. He’ll never be able to forgive his kidnapper. Never. Because of her, he’s been denied his dream of becoming an artist. More importantly, he’d have grown up with a mother he could love instead of one he can barely tolerate. And the shadow of his controlling stepfather wouldn’t have darkened his life.
Furious, his life in pieces, Daniel needs the answer to just one question. Why did Laura Bateman kidnap him?
He’s not sure he’ll ever find out. The woman now under arrest for his kidnap twenty-two years ago isn't talking. Laura Bateman doesn't believe a crime has been committed; to her, stealing Daniel seemed her only option at the time. Until she receives Daniel’s forgiveness, something he’s sworn she’ll never get, Laura’s staying silent as to what really happened all those years ago.
There’s a saying that you have to walk a mile in someone’s shoes before judging them. Will Daniel ever be ready to step into Laura Bateman’s shoes?
A tense novel of psychological suspense, His Kidnapper's Shoes weaves one man’s quest for his identity with one woman's need to heal her troubled past. • Goodreads

And it isn’t long before she begins to realize Timbell Creek is not only a part of who she was, but might be a part of who she is as well. • Goodreads
