Amy Price is a mild mannered college student struggling to keep up with life. While on the way to the wedding of her best friend's sister, she gets caught up in a tunnel of blue twinkling light and arrives two hundred years in the past. Amy slowly learns that her mother escaped life in 1817 England through the magic of a leprechaun and was brought to America almost two hundred years in the future. The leprechaun realizes Amy came back because her now deceased mother, Amelia, was pregnant with her when he sent her away. Amy demands to be sent back, but the leprechaun insists the magic will not be right for another seven days. It isn't long before Amy is found and mistaken for her mother. Unfortunately, Amelia Price was wanted for the murder of her fiance only three weeks prior.
Lord Damien Harrington had been charged by Amelia's father to bring her to him before turning her over to the authorities for trial and that was exactly what he intended to do. The woman yarns a ridiculous story of a leprechaun and time travel that he can not possibly believe. Arrogant and steadfast in his pursuit of justice, Damien's head refuses to divert from his appointed task. His heart has other ideas.
This story has some of my favorite elements weaved into a romance. Not only was the clandestine romance of Amy and Damien eminent, the mystery behind her mother's flight and travel through time had me completely bewitched. I read this in one day because I just had to know how it all turned out.
Kitchens developed two superlative lead characters. Amy is plucky and vivacious, outstanding qualities to have when dropped unexpectedly into the past. Damien is driven, yet has a tremendous heart with a capacity for generously giving his love. I applaud Kitchens for her distinctive plot and invigorating characters.
Thank you to Jennifer Kitchens for gifting me a copy of Once Upon a Lifetime in exchange for an honest review. I can say with certainty, I am looking forward to reading more from her in the future.
